Have you ever noticed your thoughts running away with you, barraging you with a list of all the things you need to do along with how impossible it is to get it all done? Our minds are sometimes our worst enemy. That’s because it’s free territory for ego to tell its story.
When we bring our awareness to our heart center, we bypass the mind and the ego and come home to Self. One of the ways I come to center is through exercise. Ecstatic dance, yoga, biking, and roller-blading, to name a few, facilitate a mind-body-heart connection that opens me to a higher truth. A pure awareness of the Allness of God.
I’ve often gotten wonderful insights and breakthroughs during what I call my movement meditations. Every aspect of my life has benefited from the experience. Obviously, health improves with elevate mood, energy, strength, and vitality. However, I’ve also had many shifts in my thinking and belief patterns around relationships, career, and prosperity.
For example, one night during a nia class, we focused on the heart. Our instructor, Jessica, extended an experiential invitation to see our careers from the place of the heart. As we danced, we took definite stances with martial arts precision. We flowed into turns moving our upper body in undulations around the spine. We paused into pure awareness before each continued movement. But always, there was the next step. The next movement. A beautiful analogy of what I often feel in pursuing my dreams.
In the heart of the dance, we envisioned a rope leading up to our destination. As we reached arm over arm, continuing to undulate our ribs, climbing to the apex of success in our minds, she guided us into our heart to feel what that was like. What was the emotion that stirred when we saw our goal in sight? What was it like to imagine the success of our endeavors? How prosperous would we allow ourselves to be?
Then she brought us into the process of now awareness and asked several thought provoking questions:
- Did we take the time to enjoy the journey? I realized I hadn’t been!
- What was all the climbing for if we didn’t enjoy the path along the way? I didn’t have an answer.
- What could we release in the moment and still feel successful and prosper? I stumbled over this one, too.
The imaginary rope began to burn in my hands. I was no longer able to hold my own weight. I realized the immense burden I’d been carrying was a loss of the present moment, and I could no longer climb with that burden. New insights gave me the answers to those provocative questions. What could I release? Everything! I was already successful; I just wasn’t taking the time to enjoy it, to revel in its power, to be in the fruits of my labor.
I let go of my imaginary rope and fell into my heart. I allowed my body to fill with compassion and forgiveness for the moments I’d missed, and opened to feeling the joy of success right now. I made a commitment to feel that feeling in each moment, and my career has been unfolding faster with less effort and greater ease, grace, and prosperity.
I offer you similar questions (In my book, Communing With the Infinite, I give even more insights to assist you in answering these and other questions for a balanced life):
- What have you been missing because you’re caught in the pursuit of “getting there” (wherever there is)?
- What can you release so that you can enjoy the fruits of your labors along the way?
- Are you willing to shift your consciousness to recognize and celebrate your present success?
The heart offers subtle insights when we take the time to tune in and allow its brilliance to reveal our truth. Living from heart is an art to cultivate in every aspect of life. Let me support you in cultivating that art so you can be in the now of your present success. You’re worth it, and so is your life. Namaste!
